Reflective Journal

One of the on-going assignments throughout the E-Learning for Educators course has been the reflective journal. After each module has been completed, a reflective assessment has been encouraged by our instructor. This reflective process has not only helped me to think deeper about the readings, activities and discussions that were assigned throughout the module, but also it has helped me to make the necessary connections in the learning process. I have enjoyed writing my reflections after concluding each module. This activity has been imiplemented throughout the course and I can really see the importance of it. Please scroll down to read my weekly reflections.
Module #1:
This past week has been very exciting and quite demanding. I have had the opportunity to start a new journey in my educational career; I am in the quest of learning how to teach online. Throughout the week I learned about the myths and constraints of teaching online. I was able to share my thoughts with my classmates through the discussion board. We also had an Ice-breaker activity in which we had to present ourselves throughout a post describing the view through our windows. I really think that everything has been useful to me during the first week of the class. I also believe that I have achieved my learning objectives for this week. I feel that I was able to keep up with the discussions in the discussion board; I read all the articles assigned and I participated in every activity assigned. I did notice that time-management is very important in an online class and in my own learning process. I have enjoyed the class throughout the week, I also have learned how to work with a LMS as a student and I have been able to do additional research about other LMS such as Moodle. I heard about this through the discussion board. My thoughts about teaching have changed. I am learning new techniques through the use of technology and I am collaborating with my peers in order to achieve a common goal in our education journey. I believe that what I have learned thus far in class will be helpful in my teaching career. In regards to my participation in class during the week, I felt that it was consistent and relevant. I am definitely satisfied with the level and quality of my participation. I see myself as an active member of the group and I believe that my performance was exemplary.
Module #2:
The second week of this class was interesting and challenging. I was able to share my post in the discussion board about the assigned readings for this module early in the week. I also was an active participant in the discussion board. The readings for this week covered two important topics, communities and netiquette. I enjoyed learning about Diigo and how it can be used for educational purposes. Another web site that I found interesting was Web 2.0., I found a lot of information that I could start implementing in my classes right away. I believe that I achieved my learning objectives for this week. The activities for this week were helpful and they help me to achieve these objectives. My time-management improved considerably this past week. I believe that my class participation and performance throughout the week have been exemplary.
Module #3:
During the third week of class we used an alternative LMS instead of D2L. We moved to Moodle and we started our own forum in different groups. I was assigned the red group and my colleagues and I created different questions in regards to the different readings that were assigned for this week. This week’s readings were helpful and I was able to learn something new from each of the readings. I enjoyed the forum that my classmates and I created in Moodle. I participated very actively in this week’s forum and I am sure that my performance throughout the week was exemplary. I feel that all of the members of my group have participated consistently throughout the week and I think that we all have benefited from the incredible discussions that have taken place in the forum. These discussions have allowed me to think critically about the different topics from the readings assigned and they have also helped me to develop new ways to incorporate these resources in my teachings.
Module #4:
Halfway there! I found myself reflecting upon the fourth week of instruction. This week‘s readings have been very informative. I read over all of the readings assigned, these readings helped me to gain more knowledge in regards to assessments, online testing and copyright and fair use. I was familiar with the first two readings; however, I have learned new insights with the Copyright and Fair Use reading. I found that reading informative and helpful. I have also enjoyed the fact that we are using two LMS such as, Moodle and D2L. I like to be able to work with both systems and learn from them. In the D2L system I worked with a quiz and the readings assigned. Meanwhile, in Moodle I was able to share a quiz and a survey that I have created in QUIA. In addition to that, I also learned how to create a quiz in Moodle and I have
participated in the quizzes and surveys that my classmates have posted in Moodle. I believe that my performance this week has been exemplary. I have been able to post my work on time and share my thoughts and comments with my
classmates. I look forward to the next module.
Module #5:
This week we moved from Moodle and worked a bit more independently. We transitioned to self-paced learning. The readings assigned for this week were interesting and very helpful. The first activity that I worked with was the Information Fluency Training. I enjoyed working with this self-paced training, however, it was very time consuming. I did not expect for this training to take that much time (8 hours approximately). I did learn new concepts through the training and I am eager to start applying these new techniques in my classes. In addition to this training, I also had to take a certification exam which I passed with a grade of 85%. I was a bit disappointed with the way that the system graded some of the answers. The discussions posted on the discussion board were interesting and it helped me to share my thoughts with my colleagues. In my opinion, the discussion board is very beneficial in an online environment because it promotes educational conversations and collaboration among the students. I am certain that my performance throughout the week has been exemplary.
I look forward to the next module 6, only a few more to go…
Module #6:
The readings and activities assigned for this week have been informative and very helpful. This week I chose to work with a technology tool that was not familiar to me before, Augmented Reality, or “AR”. I have enjoyed learning about this technology and how it could be implemented in the educational environments. In addition to the research that I did in regards to this technology, I also had to create a Custom Search Engine (CSE). This CSE was created through Google and the topic that I chose for this assignment was Augmented Reality. I achieved my learning objectives this week and I also reflected about how this technology could be implemented in my classes. I will continue learning about this tool and hopefully I will be able to implement it soon. I am satisfied with my participation in the discussion board this week; I believe that my research and the feedback that I have provided to my colleagues have been exceptional.
Module #7:
This week I have been working with my E-Portfolio. I have truly enjoyed working with this project and providing feedback to my colleagues’ E-Portfolios. It was challenging at first to organize the different elements that were required for this project, but once I had a clear understanding of what needed to be included in this project, the brainstorming process started. I knew the type of software I was going to use for this project, Weebly, was the right choice for this project. Once I found the template designed for my site I was able to add the different e-learning artifacts that were required for this assignment. Throughout the creation of this project, I was able to reflect deeply about the different concepts and collaborative work that we have had in class. As I continued working with this site, I was realizing how important the assignments and activities designed for this course have been in the learning process. These assignments have helped me to become a better learner and most importantly have taught me how to become a better online teacher. My E-Portfolio is a reflection of this journey, a journey that never ends, a journey that always allows you to continue growing as a professional and as a person, a journey that will allow you to meet and collaborate with new people, a journey that challenges you and always thrive for success.
This week I have been participating actively in the discussion board and I have been able to provide feedback to my classmates. I believe that my performance in class has been exceptional.
The finish line is just a few steps ahead…
