I graduated from "Colegio San Luis" in Caracas, Venezuela. Once I graduated from high school, I began my journey to college. The first stop in my journey was Freed Hardeman University located in Henderson, TN. I was awarded a tennis scholarship and I attended my freshman year in this school. The second stop of my journey was Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I was also awarded a tennis scholarship from this institution and I graduated from there with a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations. After graduating from college, I returned to South America. My new destination was Santiago, Chile. While I was staying there, I was able to work with different projects in the advertising and public relations field. However, teaching has always been a part of me. Somehow, I always found myself teaching something to someone. Whether it was how to play tennis or how to speak English... Upon my return to the U.S., I was given the opportunity to start a career in education. After completing the requirements for the teaching certification in the state of Texas, I started to teach Spanish at the high school level. Since then, I have continued teaching all levels of Spanish and also I have been in charge of developing the Native Speakers Program in the current school district that I work for, Allen ISD.
Since I was in high school, I have always noticed the importance of the implementation of technology in the classroom. In fact, my graduation thesis-project was about the implementation of the Internet and the need of having a web site and a computer lab in our high school. Back then, we did not have the wonderful technology tools that we have nowadays. As an educator, I am always trying to find new ways to engage my students and to utilize technology in the best way possible. I have a great passion for education and the different ways that technology can improve the learning process. I am an advocate for student-centered classrooms. I believe that students need to be exposed to valuable information and meaningful activities that will lead to the creation of real world educational artifacts. I apply a wide variety of teaching strategies in the learning process. My goal as an educator is to develop highly engaged educational systems or processes in order to promote higher order level thinking among my students. Many educational philosophies have influenced my views in regards to teaching, but "Constructivism" is one of the philosopies that have had a great impact in my teaching career. I am continuously looking for ways to improve as an educator and how to utilize the technology available in order to produce collaborative environments not only among my students, but also among my colleagues.
As a life long learner, I see the value and the importance of education. Education is the master key that will open many doors in anyones' life and therefore, I encourage my students to become life long learners.
